Sensoverse x MOME Innovation Center (Nora Gulya)
Organizing a conference is one of the most resource-intensive types of events, often generating large amounts of waste through single-use plates and cups, food waste, printed flyers, posters, and other disposable materials. This environmental impact becomes particularly problematic when the event itself focuses on sustainability, circular design, or future materials.
To address this challenge, these plates were developed as edible tableware supplements by the Innovation Center of MOME (Nóra Gulya) for Sensoverse’s (Laila Snevele) Natural Synthetic Food Experience at the Future Materials Conference – VIP Event (2024). The project explores how material innovation, bioplastic design, and sustainable event practices can reduce waste while enhancing the guest experience.
The plates were produced using edible bioplastics combined with fruit-based materials, creating a fully consumable, zero-waste solution for event catering. By replacing conventional disposable tableware, the project eliminated post-event waste and demonstrated a practical application of bio-based materials in real-world event contexts.
Beyond their functional role, the plates became part of an immersive food design and material research experience. Guests were invited to engage directly with sustainable materials through eating, encouraging reflection on consumption, material lifecycle, and waste reduction.
